 Weekly Planner History

The weekly planner is very old, from 1998ish, before Beth joined the Tritonlink team, so she doesn't know much about its history.

Class Planner History

The Class Planner (Beta) is being developed for the purpose of allowing students to have a live, interactive interface for planning their courses before registering.  One of its driving design features is to have more of a "shopping cart" feel to it: students shop around for courses, add them to a Planner (planners can be distinct from each other) which is analogous to a shopping list, and then in the future, they will be able to drop an instance of a planner directly into Webreg to register for those classes.  TritonSchedule inspired some of its features.

Class Planner Future

The Tritonlink team is already considering or working on some additional features for the Class Planner.  For example, students want to be able to see multiple sections for the same course on their calendar, (which is currently not possible for courses that are registered for by section), they want to be able to add their own appointments to the planner, (rather than only adding courses to the planner), and they want to be able to copy instances of planners, so they can create different tweaked versions without working from scratch.  The team is also considering how to add an unscheduled class to the planner - some courses, like 199s, don't have a time associated with them, but students want to be able to see them on the planner anyway.  Associated functions they are looking to add are making major declaration, minor declaration, and withdrawal forms available online.

Further Discourses

Beth's email address is bsurrell@ucsd.edu.  She also recommended Ron Black (858-534-7026 as the head programmer as another good source of information.  She is interested in attending our final presentation, and suggested that Ron Black and Karen Cangialossi (sp?) would be interested in attending as well, as would perhaps other members of the Tritonlink team.
