User JY (notes from interpretation session 05/07/07)

-A UCSD undergraduate third year marine

-Frequently visits the gym

-Day usually consists of classes, gym

-Follows a rigid and set workout schedule acquired from the Marines

-Regularly carries around a laptop

-Sometimes writes reminders on random scraps of paper to help remind himself to upload reminders on the computer at home

-Writes daily tasks on notecards in the morning and later in the day prioritizes (refers to Wiki)

-Schedules model UN meetings with other people verbally (mentioned that he used to receive different formats

-Copies and pastes his tritonlink schedule onto his wiki

-Has a 4 year planner on the wall that he refers to when he signs up for classes in the beginning of the quarter

-Uses a wiki to keep track of his entire schedule

  • Puts more important items in the front of the wiki page
  • Has a “non-priority objectives” section that primarily serves as items of interest within the next 6 weeks
  • Section with upcoming deadlines
  • Contains Syllabus

Notables:

-Keeps a wiki for general scheduling

-Prioritizes tasks

-Wants to be able to use information in other applications besides tritonlink

-He wants to be able to use information other than in the original format (eventually transfer the information to the Wiki)

-Commends Berkeley’s “ranking” class sign-up system

-Keeps a google calendar and refers to a monthly view but he doesn’t usually use it – would like to subscribe/link schedule with pertinent information (ex: TA/office hour information and any changes)

-Wants a comprehensive calendar like google calendar that automatically adds everything you want

Lightning areas:

  • user/paper notes (extra cumbersome step)
  • user/tritonlink weekly planner
  • has difficulty with reconciling different formats when coordinating schedules – some people give him paper schedules and some tritonlink
  • tritonlink weekly planner – too much of a hassle to log in each time he wanted to access it
